To Facebook or not to Facebook

logo

Some people keep on asking me why I don’t log in my Facebook account. I don’t want to sound bias but I’m more of a Twitter addict than a Facebook fan. You see, in a span of 6 months, I managed to tweet almost 4,400 updates (Yay me!). With the growing number of Facebook users, it already feels ‘crowded’ just by looking at the number of people adding you as their “friend”. And sometimes, people you don’t even know whose name is Pahk Lan Tei (sorry, just made that up) wants to add you as her friend.

Social networking used to be fun, actually…until the whole world flocked on Facebook. Seriously, with more than 500 friends on your account, how do you interact with all of them?! I even see others with more than a thousand friends. Where in the world did you meet all of these people? For the life of me, I don’t know how you managed to add 4,231 people in your account. Well, unless you’re in politics or planning to run as mayor of your small town, so go for it! Err, why not make a fan page instead? LOL.

Here are a few reasons why I don’t do Facebook:

  1. For me, Facebook-ing is not fun anymore.
  2. NO, I don’t like to accept friend requests from people I DON’T KNOW at all!
  3. NO, I don’t like to get updates from people I DISLIKE. Well okay, there are some “friend” requests that I approved just because I am forced to or maybe because I don’t want to hear that person say that I have such a big head or a snob :p Hey, I can be polite and nice, you know ;) With the number of people I have on my list, you’ll never know who they are. (evil laugh)
  4. I don’t want to be updated on the lives of people I barely know and ask myself, “Who the hell is this?” And I get stuck ogling at the person’s photo, only to realize that the person used to be a guy. LOL. And that he happens to be that lanky neighbor of my cousin’s classmate in grade school. Gaaahh!
  5. I don’t play mini-flash games. And from what I heard, these games are just a waste of time and can possibly turn me into one of those characters from Plants vs. Zombies.
  6. Facebook-ing makes me inefficient and incompetent, leaving me a boatload of work to do.
  7. Even though there is a Facebook app available at Blackberry App world, I did not install it on my phone. Uh-okay, I did once but I took it out after some time because I seldom use it!

With twitter, you can follow me and get updates from me without me following you or vice versa. Well, I normally follow those who followed me, except for spammers and bots.

So, I hope my Facebook friends understand why I will never ever be a Facebook fanatic.

I heart my tweeps!

Happy Halloween!

Blackberry Torch

logo

One of the hottest units that come from the Blackberry brand is the Blackberry Torch 9800. RIM and AT&T recently introduced the Blackberry Torch as the latest addition in the wide ranging smart phones.

The Blackberry Torch runs with the Blackberry OS 6 that already caused rave reviews and remarks from people anticipating the unveiling of this newest handset from Blackberry. Some of the preview videos of the Blackberry OS 6 which I viewed online are intriguing enough to entice consumers’ attention. However, the Blackberry Torch has its own set of advantages and disadvantages that a prospective buyer must know. It is essential to know the perks as well as the drawbacks of the Blackberry Torch. This is for the purpose of knowing if the phone is worth your money and if it offers all of the services that you are looking for.

How to: Cure Eyelid Spasms

logo

Earlier today, manang B (for those asking, her name’s not Beyoncé), our house help told me there was something wrong with her left eye and that it kept twitching! I chuckled and told her that it is most likely because she stays up all night watching those cheesy soap operas on television. Funny thing, she answered back and said that she might have eaten something (like a bread or fruit perhaps) that the mouse has nibbled on. I thought, What the– how silly is that! And I rolled my eyes. Manang was simply referring to eyelid spasms, which you and I are also experiencing from time to time.

Eyelid spasms, may it be an eyelid twitch, blepharospasm or hemifacial spasm, are small muscle spasms in the upper or lower eyelid. These involuntary spasms of the muscles surrounding the eye are most of the time harmless. But in extreme cases, however, they can also be a sign for an underlying condition.

Generally, some of its causes are the following:

  • Stress
  • exhaustion or tiredness
  • squinting a lot
  • eyestrain
  • dry eyes
  • caffeine
  • alcohol
  • nutritional imbalances
  • and allergies

Here are a few remedies for eye twitching:

  • Use warm water (not hot!) in rinsing the eye.
  • Reduce stress
  • Get a lot of sleep
  • Use computer eyeglasses
  • Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake

In extreme cases, injection of botulinum or surgery will be required. Botulinum is the same as botox, which is one of the most common treatments used eyelid spasms while surgery is a neurosurgical procedure that would relieve the pressure of the artery on the nerve. Both are beneficial in treating eyelid spasms yet they also have some side effects. Well, before  jumping to conclusions that soon, someone will be sticking a needle on you why not just consult your doctor for correct and further prescription.
