Summer bummer

logo

book-on-the-beachApril has finally arrived. Summer is indeed here. With the daily rotating brownouts still going on, it becomes a huuuuge oven at home for a couple of hours or three. April also means that the uber popular iPad is coming! Woot! Okay, my lappy’s for sale when the iPad arrives here, any takers? :D

So April, what do you have in store for me? I’m supposed to accompany Blithe to her oath taking in Manila. Problem is, I’m a big spender and a sucker for luxurious accommodations (finally admitting it). And since I’m scheduled for a late summer trip on May, I’m still thinking if I should cut a huge chunk from my savings to fund that trip to manila. Unless Blithe will  be willing to pay for even 1 night on that ultra plush accommodation I wanted. LOL.

Do you have any travel plans this summer? I would love love love to go to the beach but it’s about a 2-hour drive from here and I don’t have that urge to get a tan. Like what I said before, I’m not a sun worshiper – I only love the beach at night :) So if you’re planning on going to the beach anytime soon, don’t forget to bring tons of SPF, sunglasses, plenty of water, a good book and your handy mp3 player!

Rain, Rain come again

brownoutMy first entry for March is just me ranting.

Due to the increasing generation cost for fuel power plants and of course, the dry spell for hydro power plants, these rotating brownouts in Mindanao are becoming a nuisance.

My work and virtual mundane affairs are now greatly affected. I can’t even plurk on-time for Pete’s sake. Yesterday we had this 6-hour brownout from 12noon to 4 p.m, and 8 p.m. to 10p.m. This usually starts to happen when the sun is up high in the sky. No kidding, the hot, humid weather is slowly killing me. I have read this power shortage might last until the month of June. Oh noes! I’m prompted to scour the mall tomorrow for a rechargeable lamp, emergency light or perhaps a battery operated fan. It seems like power generators are selling like hotcakes, huh? Too bad, I’m saving for a camera and an out-of-the-country trip on May so I can’t afford to spare some right now. :(

Good thing though, whenever I get brownouts, my parents’ house doesn’t – unless, there is a total blackout. Because our lines are attached to different substations, what my dad did  last week was put a permanent switch that could at least give power to 2 desktops and a fan in my suite. Now, that’s a bit of relief there, right? Still, I can’t take the summer weather!

What we need is rain! Rain, rain don’t go away, come again today.
