Rain, Rain come again

brownoutMy first entry for March is just me ranting.

Due to the increasing generation cost for fuel power plants and of course, the dry spell for hydro power plants, these rotating brownouts in Mindanao are becoming a nuisance.

My work and virtual mundane affairs are now greatly affected. I can’t even plurk on-time for Pete’s sake. Yesterday we had this 6-hour brownout from 12noon to 4 p.m, and 8 p.m. to 10p.m. This usually starts to happen when the sun is up high in the sky. No kidding, the hot, humid weather is slowly killing me. I have read this power shortage might last until the month of June. Oh noes! I’m prompted to scour the mall tomorrow for a rechargeable lamp, emergency light or perhaps a battery operated fan. It seems like power generators are selling like hotcakes, huh? Too bad, I’m saving for a camera and an out-of-the-country trip on May so I can’t afford to spare some right now. :(

Good thing though, whenever I get brownouts, my parents’ house doesn’t – unless, there is a total blackout. Because our lines are attached to different substations, what my dad did  last week was put a permanent switch that could at least give power to 2 desktops and a fan in my suite. Now, that’s a bit of relief there, right? Still, I can’t take the summer weather!

What we need is rain! Rain, rain don’t go away, come again today.

Happy New Year!

2009 has been a good year for me.

And because of that I’d like to highlight a few things:

  1. I have expanded HavenforWriters. And gained more clients. See flyer here.
  2. I was able to visit Roxas and Cebu City last Summer.
  3. I bought my sought-after blackberry bold :) last September.
  4. I was able to go on a vacation with my sisters.
  5. I joined plurk, lol. And started 2 tumblr accounts.

At the start of 2010, I’m pretty sure you’re all geared up and ready to face the New Year. Not to mention going back to work (insert sad face here)… oh yeah and school resumes too. A bit sad though, but we have to let go of Christmas for now. Look at it this way – Christmas is like a beautiful dream. And a new year, on the other hand is like an alarm clock that snaps us back to reality. It simply means we got to wake up from that dream to face a new morning – a new year. For me, a new year symbolizes hope and new opportunities to explore. So, let’s toast to that! And to quote Oprah, “Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.”

Special shout-out to Rolly for making me use his 2010 3d photo.

Happy New Year, dear readers :)

Merry Christmas!

Sing hey!  Sing hey!
For Christmas Day;
Twine mistletoe and holly.
For a friendship glows
In winter snows,
And so let’s all be jolly!

There’s nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child.  ~Erma Bombeck, I Lost Everything in the Post-Natal Depression

Life@29

They say, the older you get, the wiser you become. I knew I got older but I’m not so sure with the latter, LOL. I believe wisdom is learned and earned not just something you obtain overnight. Seriously, I don’t feel old at all. I’m not worried of my age either. I do accept the fact that I’ll be turning 30 next year. Those two numbers don’t scare me at all. Truth is, I’m still childish and immature. Funny though during my birthday my tita asked if I just turned 25. I thought she was joking and when I looked at her I knew she was seriously inquiring. I laughed and said, “No, actually it’s 29. But I’ll be happy to be 25!”

Yaya e-mailed me and asked me when I plan to settle down. Answer is, I do not know. I am enjoying my life right now. No commitments, no responsibilities. C’mon, let me enjoy it for another two or three years ;) . And maybe that’s the time I’ll decide whether I’ll marry or I’ll just go find a suitable ‘donor’ LOL :) . IMHO, Life is not short, really. It’s a long and winding road so I’d rather keep my options open.

Enough of the what-I-think-of-life stuff. So, here’s what I got for my birthday – a ton of books from Reign, a cake from my look-a-like niece Miel and this one-of-its-kind necklace from Lurchie. Yay to all! Thank you so much! You made my birthday extra special.

Books, necklace, and my pretty niece Miel.

Life at 29 is no different at all from the life I had a year ago. There may be changes but nothing big. So, here are 29 random, dull and silly things about me:

  1. Aside from my mom’s floating island, one of my favorite deserts would be – macaroni salad. Just the macaroni.
  2. I’m allergic to some fruits especially Apples. So I only eat the macaroni in macaroni salad.
  3. I rarely eat veggies. I’m a meat lover. And I don’t eat milkfish.
  4. When reading books, I stay all night and finish it right away. I’m impatient.
  5. That means, I don’t like waiting, too.
  6. I like lounging around in pajamas.
  7. I get irritated easily during blackouts, or when the weather’s warm. I’m actually open to relocating to Alaska or the North Pole.
  8. I never tried skinny dipping (but would want to!)
  9. While most people go gaga over facebook’s online games or the old-timer friendster, I seldom check my accounts. I’d rather spend my time reading. Well, I got this whole pebblescartujano.com to fill first, don’t you think? So why did I open an account in facebook? At first I wanted to contact my college super friend Donna, who is by the way getting married soon (I’m so happy for you Bimers!). Later on, a few people connected so I thought, oh heck, accept it. Even though I can update the whole network with my life, I’d rather keep them as ‘connections’, in case friendster goes down. Seriously, I’m afraid I can’t keep up with all those updates.
  10. Everyone loves the beach and so do I! But I do not like to go under the sun. I do not have any plans of getting a tan in the near future. So, I’m into night swimming.
  11. I meant night dipping. Because I do not know how to swim. I’ll be the first to depart this life by the dawn of water world.
  12. I like to cook, but takeout food is more convenient.
  13. I still play the guitar.
  14. I write songs when I feel like it, even when I’m in the middle of a rush work.
  15. When I started kindergarten, Ann-Ann was my seatmate and the first friend I had. I guess I’m the type who would ‘kill’ for a friend. While in class, I stabbed this boy on the back with a newly-sharpened pencil because he made Ann-Ann cry. I remember my mom spanking and scolding me a lot of times. I got scared when my mom teased me I’d end up in jail.  Okay, it was a little offhand. I don’t have killer instincts, lol. And I am not a sociopath-slash-murderer. If you’re curious what happened to the boy, well, yes, he survived. A few months after, he stole a kiss from me and I chased him around to finish what I started. Me, Ann-Ann and the boy became classmates until first year high. So, I guess I’d “kill” for a friend :)
  16. Growing up, I always wanted to be a lawyer. I like staying up late. I just don’t have the patience to study.
  17. I never dated in high school. I went to an all-girl catholic school. And I wasn’t boy-friendly.
  18. I only got drunk once and that was the last.
  19. I don’t like green tea or black tea. I like bubble teas though.
  20. When I’m upset, I don’t talk at all.
  21. But I’m a tough cookie.
  22. My favorite meal of the day: Breakfast!
  23. I think one doesn’t have to stop loving the other even when they decide that they are better off apart.
  24. I like tulips. And Calla lilies. And Gerberas.
  25. I am a direct descendant of opera diva Jovita Fuentes.  She was my grandma’s aunt and she calls her Mama Vita.
  26. I have multiple best friends. One of them is my sister, Blithe.
  27. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Ham, num.
  28. I like to stand up for people I love and people I work with.
  29. I would very much like to learn Italian.

Birthday wish: May he win that lottery so I’ll get my 25% (LOL)

Birthday resolutions: Get more exercise, read more, infuse more patience into my system.

Arrivederci!

12 Things That Are True About Me Right Now

logo

I got this from Lurchie’s blog entry about 12 Things That Are True About Me Right Now. I reckon this could be a good mind exercise :p So here goes.

  1. I’m so lovin’ my blackberry bold. There is like a thousand things you can do with it – from internet surfing to videos to mp3s and documents. Glad I could connect it with my home wireless connection.
  2. pbath&bodyspacaddyI keep counting the days ‘til my most favorite time of the year – Christmas! It just reminds of the good ol’ days, the feeling of waking up on Christmas morning finding my huge Christmas sock filled with gifts and candies, chocolates and whatnot. I could remember my very first gift – a blue bmx bike. My Christmas wish this year? A basket of Bath & Body goodies :D Want to donate? Send me a message and I’ll give you my home address. lol.
  3. I’m glued to my computer chair. Will be busy for the next 2 weeks. As you can see, I am online 24/7. So when you don’t see me around conclude that I am experiencing a blackout. Yes, I take bathroom breaks too.
  4. I keep fixing things at home. Can’t stop.
  5. I’m officially a fan of Lenka. She reminds me of that little girl in the movie How the Grinch stole Christmas.
  6. I have to admit, I’m not that excited about our Hong Kong trip. The excitement died after the pandemic break out of the H1N1 virus. But I look forward to spending time with my sisters.
  7. Will be going back to hiphop abs soon. Tomorrow perhaps? Or maybe when my tummy stops hurting.
  8. I stopped drinking colas, for the meantime. Yay!
  9. I’m trying to write a song, but I can’t seem to put the words together. And the tune sucks :( This is all I got so far:

Mailed you a letter a long time ago,
Told you my heart’s desire that you must know
But I knew the letter didn’t reach your hands,
Now the moment’s gone leaving things undone.

Should I blame the postman?
Should I blame the storm?
I said I was sorry, I hope you know

10.  Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar is driving me nuts right now (num!)

11.  I’m wondering if Blithe will agree to trade her laptop with mine. :D

12.  I have downloaded tons of Christmas songs and I keep playing them over and over again.

I’m done! :) Maybe next time I can do a list of 24 things. *Grins* I’m actually in search of 365 topics for blogging and share it with The Girl with Mud Smudged Cheeks. I hope to find one before the new years. Hey, join now and follow me in Plurk.
