Music and Lyrics

logo

I write songs when I have nothing to do at all. It’s one hobby I have set aside for the meantime due to my being busy. But if you hand me a guitar and give me a piece of paper right now, I’ll write a song for you in less than an hour, a decent one at least. Song writers have their own way of coming up with music and lyrics. In my case, I usually come up with the tune first then the words. Odd for some, but that is how I do it.

Pseudo World

I’m inside your pseudo world
Wandering…
Finding my way out
So much lies, so much doubt
Tell me why
I’m thinking of ways to die

*There is someone in you that I hold dear
There is someone in you that I love
Tell me why life is so unfair?
This pain I could never bear

I’m inside your pseudo world
Wishing and
Hoping that I am wrong
I thought it’s with you where I belong
But here I am
Singing this sad song

*There is someone in you that I hold dear
There is someone in you that I love
Tell me why life is so unfair?
This pain I could never bear

Pseudo World is one of the many songs I wrote, which by the way, was amateurishly recorded a few years back. I’m not much of a singer. But I guess I’ve improved over the past 2 years. Well, that’s what my mom said. And I usually believe her (grins). DOWNLOAD the song here!

Some of my compositions were uploaded in my multiply site. Click here if you are a producer :D . And if you’re just plain curious, feel free to do so as well.

Talking about music, here are my top 5 musical films of all time:

  1. The Sound of Music. Who can ever forget Maria and the Von Trapp family? I always thought Christopher Plummer has a fascinating voice. Julie Andrews was wonderful. The storyline never gets old and the songs are very catchy! I’ve watched this film countless times with my sisters. Ever wondered what happened to those 7 kids from this musical film? Click here to meet them!
  2. The King and I. Magnificent performance by Yul Brunner! I would always laugh at King Mongkut’s lines like, “When I sit, you sit. When I kneel, you kneel. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!” and “A promise is a promise! Head must not be higher than King!”
  3. Hello, Dolly! – Horace Vandergelder is hilarious. Actor Walter Matthau is one of my favorite comedians. I’ve watched most of the movies he starred in with his buddy Jack Lemmon. Movies like Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Men, The Odd Couple, The Odd Couple II and Out to Sea. Movies like these usually make my day!
  4. The Phantom of the Opera (2004) – the character of the Phantom, a disfigured musical genius who dwells underneath the Paris’ Opera Populaire was portrayed by 300’s Gerard Butler. No, he didn’t have those six packs yet. LOL.
  5. Moulin Rouge – The year is 1899 in Paris. Moulin Rouge is a cliché-ridden love triangle which starred Ewan McGregor who played the role of Christian, an aspiring English writer and Nicole Kidman who played Satine, the star courtesan of Moulin Rouge, a famous underworld Night Club in Paris.

Other musical films I’ve watched: Evita, Cry Baby (Johnny Depp. Num.), Dreamgirls,  Hairspray, Camp Rock, Cheetah Girls, High School Musical 1 2 and 3, Enchanted, Another Cinderella Story and all those cartoon musicals especially Anastasia, which I really like. Will be finding time to watch Chicago and Mama Mia. Hopefully.

Here’s a few of musical films scheduled for release in 2010: Carousel, Hairspray 2, Footlose and My Fair Lady.

So, which of these musical films have you watched? :)

I am a big fan of musicals, especially the period ones coz I just love looking at the costumes. I can’t write songs though. :( hehe, never really had a talent for it. I used to write poems, but I haven’t done that in years. :D

Musicals I’ve watched and enjoyed include

Phantom of the Opera – I hate to admit, but I’ve probably seen this close to 20 times.
Moulin Rouge – I love the costumes as well as the use of contemporary music
Evita – I like the songs and the clothes as well – haha
Mama Mia – Its a fun one
    Hairspray – So is this

I have also watched most of the musicals on the list, except maybe for the newer Disney ones.

I am looking forward to My Fair Lady and Hairspray 2 too.
